where's my hero?
mmm. that mimosa looks good.  i didn’t manage to sleep until 5:30 am, so i set my alarm to get up at 8:30 to start watching the inauguration - on my laptop in bed.  i only just now got my coffee and pancakes together. its been exciting so far. (i really liked the part when bush high-tailed it to texas!) i’ve never paid attention to inaugurations - when was the last time one was so well well...

8 Minutes Flat
Last night I wrote: “I am going to go to bed and veg out with a marathon BBC drama viewing session, red wine, dark (90%) chocolate, and various other vices that I can’t live without.” And that is exactly what I did, until 2:30 or so in the AM. My alarm was set for 5:30. I checked it before I went to sleep. But somehow or another, it didn’t wake me up. I must have shut it off in...

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn Dies →
But first, I have to pay my respects to the late, great, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn. Thank you for posting this Mills. Your blog was the first place I heard the news. I have been out of the loop I guess. The news hit me kinda hard for a minute, til I realized he had a nice long life - I hope I make it to 89. Solzhenitsyn was a writer who was very influential to the course of my life. His work was the...

Long Time No Blog.
I have to apologize for the prodigious spate of reblogging. I haven’t been on Tumblr since… well… I don’t remember. I have been moving. It’s been hectic. Alot of readjusting. Its going well. I took some pictures to post after Cricket called me up and bugged me about not having blogged for a long time. I took some pictures of my new house, and the salmon curry I was...

– -me. (I decided long ago that feminism for me was not about letting other women dictate to me who I can fuck or how I can fuck, or that owning my desires and indulging my fantasies made me “complicit in my own subjugation”.)

Seattle: not even passive-aggressive, just passive
melanyouth: In the left lane, at a light I did not see was red in time to stop sooner, my car is blocking most of the crosswalk. The pedestrians crossing from the right are facing an empty street; there is no traffic approaching them. This is Seattle, so what people are doing are scrunching themselves close to the front of my car, bodies slightly twisting and off balance, to avoid stepping...

Owning Guilt
I was watching this documentary about the life of Oscar Wilde, and there was an interview with a descendant of Lord Alfred Douglas, a.k.a. “Bosie”, who was Wilde’s friend and lover. Bosie’s dad brought charges against Wilde which ultimately resulted in his conviction and sentence of two and half years hard labor for “gross indecency” - his sexual activity with...

“I am not one who is made for laws, but for exceptions.”
– (or something to that effect) Oscar Wilde. I was watching a documentary the other night. I can’t recall the exact wording or find it on the net. But I like it!

Three things I do not know enough about
melanyouth: 1. I do not know when to use “it’s” and when to use “its”. I feel quite sure I was told once of a rule to determine the correct choice, but I must have forgotten it. It occurs to me now that I can probably look this up on the Internet and be cured. 2. I do not know when to use “though” and when “although” is a more appropriate choice. Is there a real difference in meaning and/or...

I’m barely feeling nostalgic
reblogged from melanyouth: “ I’m already feeling nostalgic. You know that feeling you get when you are leaving something behind and even though you are looking forward to the change, there is a little or maybe a medium-sized pang in your heart when you think about the things you are leaving? The sights and sounds and smells, the feelings you have had in this place, the ways you are comfortable...

Welcome to the tumblelog of the korybante
So. I have been reading tumblelogs for a few days and admiring all the pretty pictures. I thought I would give it a try. I have no idea what I am doing yet, but I will get the hang of this. I want to tell you the story of my leaving one place and claiming another as my own. Transforming a house into a home. My story will ramble, revealing the random things that happen and that I think about along...
